Top 5 worst fanboy types: #1

Apple Fanboy- To me these are the most annoying of fanboys because they are the most elitist of fanboys. Anyone who disagrees with them about the superiority of Apple products or Apple Inc is a total idiot who can't comprehend how superior Apple is. Their enemies are also quite possibly poor people who 'hate' Apple products because they can't afford them. I personally belive that if you align yourself with and/or evangelize for a corporation with which you have no personal involvment that you are most likely a soulless, pitiful excuse for a human being.
Sorry, just had to say that.
No corporation has anything but your money in their sights. They don't care about you. They are not your friend. They don't think you're cool. You can't hang out with them. They don't love you.
All they care about is your money.
How Apple goes about getting it is an interesting thing to me. Their advertising has always appealed to creative, elitist personality types because Apple has always been known for making computers geared toward creative uses, such as graphic design, publishing, photography, and film and music production. They were primarily used for these functions until just recently, when they expanded their target market to include students and people who are easily confused by computer operating systems. Smartly, their advertising plays up the fact that creative people are generally more elitist than buisiness people or average consumers, and uses advertising to create a distinct 'cool elitist' aura for their products. Very smart advertising.
All they care about is your money.

Haute Podcasts Shortlist

Here are a few haute podcasts that you should be listening to, in no particular order:

Adam Carolla- Funny man! Adam and I share a common personality trait: we are old men trapped in young men's bodies. But not in a sexual way. This podcast is also available on iTunes.

How Stuff Works- There are a ton of podcasts here that are excellent and very fun to listen to. Informative, and hosted by nerds who are endearing not annoying. Except for the "Stuff From The B-Side" podcast which for some reason has extremely annoying hosts. These podcasts are also available on iTunes.

ESPN: The BS Report- Sports themed podcast hosted by Bill Simmons. Simmons has a great sense of humor for a Red Sox fan, and I enjoy the show when he isn't talking about basketball. I dislike the NBA and totally hate College basketball. For some reason basketball sucks. This podcast is also available on iTunes.

T.W.I.T- Host Leo Laporte talks about technology. I like this podcast even though they talk about twitter WAY TOO MUCH. Plus there is usually some bitter guest guy that pretty much hates everything, which is entertaining. This podcast is also available on iTunes.

The Joystiq - A podcast about videogames. I alternate back and forth with this podcast because the hosts are not professional broadcasters, so they sometimes don't complete thoughts or even respond to each other's statements. Sometimes they say interesting things though. And damn, this podcast sometimes runs over 2 hours! This podcast is also available on iTunes.

So that's my podcast shortlist. The best part of using an iphone is that you can DL podcasts directly to the phone instead of having to DL through Itunes on a computer and sync all that crap!

Robert

Hello

My name is Robert Giampa, and I admit it: I am an artist. What kind of artist? Well, I think that's a hard question to answer. You see, I'm not an artist like Van Gogh, Bob Dylan, or Hemingway. I'm an artist who does lots of different things. I take photographs. I draw. I paint. I create music. I do 3D modeling, creating props and environments for use in video games. I sing. I imagine.
So what?
Admitting to other people that I am an artist is a very tough thing for me, mostly because in my opinion the term contains so many negative connotations:
Unreliable.
Aloof.
Elitist.
Spacy.
Arrogant.
Poor.
Unemployed.

Of course, most of these connotations are accurate in describing many artists! But they don't really bother me. The worst thing, for me personally, about telling most people that I am an artist is that they automatically put me in a different category of person than they put themselves in. By this I mean that inevitably at some point they say, "You are so creative! I could never do anything like that!"
I HATE hearing that. To me that statement is one of the biggest pieces of BS I have ever heard! I think that everyone is creative. Every person on this planet has the right to be creative and enjoy and create art. Of course, I do believe that some people are born with special talents that push them far beyond what most people are capable of, but so what? I don't understand why most people think they can't do something just because there are other people better at doing that thing than they themselves are. To use a sports example, normal men don't stop playing basketball with thier friends simply because they will never be as good as Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. But it's different with 'art' and 'creativity.'

I think anyone can pretty much do anything they want to. I'm not a writer, but I decided to start this blog in order to express myself. I wanted a place to think out loud about the things that interest me, and maybe even hear from others who have an opinion.

So that's what this blog is going to be: Robert Giampa thinking out loud about whatever he finds interesting. Mostly it'll cover artistic/creative themes. But look out for the occasional post about The Dodgers, the most fantastic team to ever play in the history of baseball.
Thanks!
